There comes a time in many lives when less is more.
Susannah Chapman has practical guidelines in the art of
downsizing and how to best funnel a large home into a smaller space. With her trained eye, this can be accomplished without sacrificing comfort or charm.
Many of her clients for whom she has created a downsized home have been told that their smaller apartments and houses are prettier in every way than their past, larger homes.
"It all begins with a realistic plan for what should stay and
what should go, much of which depends on correct scale," says Chapman. And by "what should go" she means go into storage, go to a relative, or go on the auction block.
"Downsizing can be the most freeing domestic move a person can make. The number and size of rooms is of little consequence if the downsized space is treated with a knowing eye for scale, efficiency and livability. Mirrored walls, floor to ceiling, are one of the best investements a downsizer can bring to a small space.”
